NUTRITION FAQS

What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist (furthermore a Sports RD)
2
3

Many people don’t realize this, but there is a big difference between a nutritionist and being a Registered Dietitian (RD). Simply put, anybody can call themselves a nutritionist; without having any formal education or training. Kind of scary when you think about it. Whereas, a Registered Dietitian, at a minimum, has a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from a U.S. regionally accredited university or college; has completed a supervised practice program (internship); and passes a national professional board exam to conduct practice. RD’s are also required, like MDs, to complete continuing professional education requirements to maintain their registration.
There are also special areas of practice that Registered Dietitians can obtain additional certification in, such as: sports nutrition, pediatric nutrition, renal nutrition, clinical nutrition support, and diabetes nutrition. Just like you have doctors with subspecialties, we have the same in the field of dietetics. Not all dietitians understand the sports aspect and the needs you have. Whewww, good thing you found us!

We take a more personalized approach to follow up session’s vs the traditional x number of 30 minute sessions. We have learned that each of our clients’ needs is different and there is no one size fits all approach. Some individuals will need weekly follow-up sessions that last 1 hour; others might need 2 half hour sessions one month and 3 1 hour sessions the next.
